Medical alarm phones are ideal if one is travelling. This is essentially a cell phone with a large panic button that calls either the central medical alert monitoring service or dials 911 in case of an emergency.

Medical alarm phones usually come with a GPS transmitter that pinpoints the location of the person so that medical personnel can be dispatched. This is the perfect complement to a home-based medical alert system.
