Consumer information on medical alarms & medic alert systems

Medical Alarm Monitoring Service

The heart of any medical alert system is the central monitoring and response service center. Whenever a distress call is placed by a medical alarm base console (in response to a panic button being pressed), a live operator calls back the number, usually within 30 seconds.

The base console contains a sensitive microphone and a powerful loudspeaker that allows conversation to take place between the person in distress and the operator - without the person having to walk over to the unit. Most base units can handle conversations even if the person is in a different part of the house.

These operators are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Often the operator will stay on the phone with you unitil medical help arrives at the home.

There is a monthly charge associated with this type of medical alert service. Make sure you read and understand all the costs, both upfront and ongoing, as well as the length of the contract.
