Consumer information on medical alarms & medic alert systems

Medical Wander Alarms

Wander alarms, also called patient locators, are a type of medical alarm that is commonly used at hospitals, nursing homes and at home for family and healthcare providers. A medical alarm transmitter is worn by the person either around the neck or on the wrist. A medical alarm receiver unit is located somewhere in the room.

Whenever a person leaves their bed, wheelchair or room, a loud alarm goes off that can be heard. Wander alarms are ideal for persons suffering from dementia or senility and that are prone to wandering off without supervision.

Medical wander alarms are generally stand-alone systems and as such aren't tied into a central medical alert monitoring service. So no monthly fees.
